Daring High-Altitude Rescue Saves Teenager After Nightlong Crane Ordeal
Emergency services in Jerusalem executed a dramatic rescue operation on Monday, saving a 15-year-old boy who had been stranded approximately 300 meters above ground on a construction crane for an estimated seven to nine hours. The teenager reportedly climbed the massive crane around midnight simply because he wanted to "see the view," according to Israel's Fire and Rescue Service.
The Complex Rescue Operation
Fire and Rescue Service commander Shai Nehemiah described the mission as exceptionally challenging. "This is a very complex rescue, both due to the great height and the challenging and problematic angle at which the crane is positioned," Nehemiah stated during the operation. He praised his team's professionalism in building a specialized rope system that enabled safe access to the stranded teenager.
The rescue team faced multiple obstacles including the extreme height, unstable positioning, and the narrow platform where the boy was located. Firefighters worked methodically to create a pulley system that would allow them to reach the teen and carefully lower him to safety.
The Dramatic Rescue Footage Goes Viral
Video footage of the rescue operation quickly spread across social media platforms, capturing global attention. The viral clips showed the shoeless teenager standing on a narrow platform just above the crane's hook, appearing visibly shaken after his prolonged ordeal at such extreme heights.
Rescuers equipped the boy with protective gear including a helmet and harness before carefully lowering him using the specialized rope system. A first responder accompanied the teen during the controlled descent, ensuring his safety throughout the process.
Medical Aftermath and Investigation
Following the successful rescue, medical personnel from Magen David Adom ambulance service examined the teenager and reported he suffered only light abrasions and dehydration despite the lengthy exposure. The boy was immediately transported to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem for further medical evaluation and care.
Authorities confirmed that while the initial motivation behind the climb remains unclear, their preliminary assessment indicated the incident was not a suicide attempt.
