INS Sudarshini Arrives in Boston for Landmark SAIL Boston 250 Event
Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sudarshini arrived at the port of Boston on Saturday, July 12, 2026, to participate in SAIL Boston 250, a major maritime event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding. The ship entered the historic harbor flying the Indian tricolour as part of the majestic Parade of Sails.
Consul General of India in Boston, Raghuram S, embarked on the ship at sea to gain a firsthand account of LOKAYAN 2026 and SAIL Boston 250, underscoring India's rich maritime heritage and the deepening maritime cooperation between India and the United States, according to a post by the Consulate General of India in Boston on X.
Part of US Semiquincentennial Celebrations
The year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding in 1776, known as the Semiquincentennial. As part of this milestone, a fleet of the world's most magnificent international tall ships and military ships are gathering in an epic peacetime assembly, sailing into ports across the country as part of Sail250, according to the Sail250 website.
Boston is among the elite group of US ports selected to host the Sail250 international fleet, alongside New Orleans, Norfolk, Baltimore, and New York City. This is only the fifth time since 1992 that tall ships and military vessels from around the globe have gathered in Boston Harbour, where the public can watch the Parade of Sail and board ships for free.
Massive Public Attendance Expected
Organizers expect more than 4 million people to attend the event, CBS News reported. Sail Boston 2026 is scheduled from Saturday, July 11, to Thursday, July 16. Boston is the final stop on the Sail250 tour; the ships were previously in New York City from July 4 to July 8 for Independence Day celebrations.
Consul General Raghuram S's participation highlights the strong bilateral ties between India and the United States, with the ship's presence at SAIL Boston 250 symbolizing India's commitment to maritime partnership. The event offers a unique opportunity for the public to engage with naval heritage and international cooperation.
