Trump Reveals Commemorative Passport Design on Truth Social

United States President Donald Trump unveiled a new design for a limited-edition American passport produced to honor the country's 250th anniversary. The prototype, shared on Truth Social on Friday, prominently features Trump's image. In his post, Trump wrote, "The U.S.A.'s New Passport, which says, 'Welcome, but be good!'".

The prototype page shows a depiction of the President positioned over the Resolute Desk, overlaying the text of the Declaration of Independence, with his signature embossed at the base. The facing page displays John Trumbull's renowned painting, "The Declaration of Independence." The image of Trump appears to be inspired by his portrait displayed at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington.

Contrast with Earlier State Department Mock-ups

This newly publicized design differs from earlier mock-ups released by the US Department of State earlier this year, which used an alternate graphic for the President. Later on Friday, the White House also published the same document layout on X with the caption, "New U.S. Passport to Commemorate America's 250th."

The commemorative passport was first announced in April as part of nationwide events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Authorities described it as "a limited-edition U.S. passport to commemorate the historic occasion of America's 250th anniversary," featuring "custom artwork and enhanced images on the front, back, and inside covers."

Availability and Standard Design Differences

During the initial rollout, an American official told CNN that the special edition "will be the default passport out of the Washington Passport Agency when available" for individuals seeking in-person renewals at that specific facility. The official further noted that "Online options or other locations will maintain existing passport design."

The standard United States passport features Percy Moran's artwork of Francis Scott Key on the interior front cover, illustrating the dawn after the shelling of Fort McHenry, the battle that inspired Key to write the verses that became the American national anthem. Passages from the anthem are also inscribed on the interior front cover.
