Trump Issues Stark Warning to Iran Over Qatar LNG Attacks
In a dramatic escalation of Middle East tensions, US President Donald Trump has vowed to authorize "massive destruction" against Iran if it attacks Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities again. This warning comes after a series of missile strikes targeted Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world's largest liquefaction facility, causing extensive damage.
Trump's Statement on Truth Social
In a sharply worded post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the United States and Qatar had no prior knowledge of the initial attacks. He attributed the conflict to Israel, which he said "acted out of anger" by striking Iran's South Pars Gas Field. "Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran. A relatively small section of the whole has been hit," Trump wrote.
He emphasized that Israel would not target the South Pars Field again unless Iran decides to attack Qatar. "NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar," Trump declared.
Threat of Retaliation
Trump warned that if Qatar's LNG facilities are targeted again, the US would respond with overwhelming force. "In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before," he stated. He added that while he does not want to authorize such violence due to long-term implications for Iran, he would not hesitate if provoked.
Details of the Attacks
According to Qatar's Ministry of Defence, the Ras Laffan Industrial City was hit by ballistic missiles from Iran, resulting in significant damage. QatarEnergy confirmed that several LNG facilities were attacked in the early hours of Thursday, causing sizable fires and further destruction. Emergency teams were deployed, with no casualties reported. This marks the second attack on the facility within 12 hours.
Qatar's Response
In response to the attacks, Qatar has declared the military and security attaches at the Iranian Embassy, along with their staff, "persona non grata" and requested they leave the country within 24 hours, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
This incident highlights the volatile nature of regional conflicts and the potential for broader international involvement. Trump's remarks underscore the US's readiness to intervene militarily to protect allied interests in the Middle East.
