ICE detains twice-deported illegal immigrant for Charlotte light rail stabbing murder
Twice-deported immigrant held for US stabbing murder

US immigration authorities have taken into custody an individual who entered the country illegally and is now the prime suspect in a fatal stabbing incident on public transport in North Carolina. The case has ignited a fresh debate on border security and enforcement.

Suspect's History of Illegal Entry and Deportation

The accused has been identified as Oscar Gerardo Solorzano-Garcia, aged 33. Investigations following his arrest for the violent crime revealed a troubling history of immigration violations. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Solorzano-Garcia was first issued a final deportation order in 2018 and was physically removed from the United States on March 9, 2018.

Despite this, he illegally crossed the border again and was arrested in 2021, leading to his second removal from the country. DHS officials stated that he apparently managed to re-enter the US a third time at an unknown date and location before the recent alleged crime.

The Heinous Crime and Official Condemnation

Solorzano-Garcia has been formally charged with first-degree murder. He is accused of attacking a male passenger with a large knife on a light rail in Charlotte, North Carolina.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem strongly condemned the alleged stabbing in an official press statement. "This heinous stabbing by this twice removed illegal alien should have NEVER happened," Noem said. She highlighted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged an arrest detainer against Solorzano-Garcia to prevent his release back into local communities.

Legal Proceedings and Past Criminal Record

Secretary Noem expressed concern over potential local non-cooperation, noting, "Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the county will honor the detainer since they have a history of not cooperating with ICE." She affirmed the administration's stance, adding, "Under President Trump, ICE is being unleashed to ensure public safety for all Americans. Make no mistake: We will not rest until every depraved criminal illegal alien is removed from our communities."

Authorities disclosed that Oscar Gerardo Solorzano-Garcia has a significant criminal history that includes prior arrests for:

  • Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
  • Destroying evidence
  • Resisting arrest
  • Using a false ID

He also holds convictions for robbery and illegal reentry into the United States. ICE has confirmed that the suspect remains in the country illegally at this time.
