UP Weather: Temperatures Rise 3-6°C, Cold Wave to Return by Jan 12
UP Weather Update: Relief from Cold, Dip Expected Soon

Residents across Uttar Pradesh have finally experienced a welcome break from the intense cold conditions that had enveloped the state. A significant rise in daytime temperatures, coupled with a reduction in dense fog, has brought temporary relief. However, meteorological experts caution that this respite will be short-lived, with colder conditions poised to make a comeback later this week.

Western Disturbance Brings Temporary Warmth

According to experts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Lucknow, the recent shift in weather is attributed to a Western Disturbance concentrated over northern Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. This system, along with an induced cyclonic circulation over Haryana, has increased atmospheric instability. The primary effect has been the early dissipation of the fog layer in the mornings.

This change has led to a notable increase of 3 to 6 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures across most districts of Uttar Pradesh. Only a few isolated areas in the eastern plains did not record this significant warming trend. The change in wind patterns has also resulted in predominantly dry weather and a gradual decrease in fog density statewide.

Cold Conditions to Intensify from January 12

The relief, however, is set to reverse. IMD scientists have issued a warning that as the influence of the current Western Disturbance weakens, the state will once again come under the grip of northwesterly winds. This shift is expected to cause temperatures to fall again.

From January 12, a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is anticipated. The cold is predicted to intensify from the evening of January 12 and into the morning hours. While sunshine during the day may slightly moderate the harshness, the overall trend will be towards colder conditions. Additionally, some fog is likely to reappear, particularly in the Terai region of the state.

Immediate Forecast and Precautions

In the immediate 24-hour period, minimum temperatures are likely to rise by 2-3°C, offering further improvement in the cold wave situation. This brief window provides an opportunity for residents to prepare for the returning chill.

The fluctuating conditions underscore the dynamic winter weather patterns over North India. Citizens, especially the vulnerable populations, are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts from the IMD and take necessary precautions as the cold wave regains strength towards the end of the week.
