The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology announced on Monday that the Aadhaar App has recorded over 31 million downloads since its launch less than five months ago, signaling strong public adoption of the digital identity platform.
Key User Statistics
According to the ministry's release, nearly 4 million users have updated their mobile numbers through the app, while approximately 850,000 individuals have used it to update their address. The app is designed to bring Aadhaar-related services directly to users' smartphones, eliminating the need for physical visits to enrollment centers.
Features and Functionality
The Aadhaar App offers a range of privacy-first features, including biometric lock and unlock with a single click, face verification for proof of presence, and authentication history tracking. It also provides a QR-based editable contact card that can replace physical visiting cards. Users can download e-Aadhaar and book appointments online for Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs).
Real-World Applications
The app supports multiple use cases such as hotel check-ins through Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) QR code scanning, hospital admissions, visitor management, event entries, and identity verification of gig workers and service partners. The ministry highlighted that the growing adoption reflects increasing confidence in the app for delivering services at users' fingertips.
"The Aadhaar App is designed to provide Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH) with a convenient and privacy-first way to show, share and verify their identity," the release stated.
