BMTC Mandates Dynamic QR Codes on ETMs for UPI Payments

BMTC has issued a directive requiring all Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) to display only dynamic QR codes for UPI payments, effective immediately. The move is aimed at enhancing transaction security and preventing fraudulent activities.

New Guidelines for UPI Payments

The corporation has outlined specific guidelines for passengers making UPI payments. According to the directive, passengers must ensure that the QR code displayed on the ETM is dynamic and changes with each transaction. Static QR codes are no longer permitted.

BMTC officials stated that the decision follows reports of misuse and scams involving static QR codes. The dynamic QR codes generate a unique transaction ID for each payment, reducing the risk of tampering.

Impact on Passengers

Passengers are advised to verify the QR code before making any payment. The dynamic code will be displayed on the ETM screen after the conductor enters the fare amount. This ensures that the payment is directly linked to the specific transaction.

According to BMTC, the new system will also streamline fare collection and reduce discrepancies. The corporation has trained its staff to implement the changes smoothly.

Security Measures

BMTC emphasized that the dynamic QR codes are part of broader efforts to secure digital payments. The corporation is working with payment service providers to ensure compliance. Passengers who encounter issues are encouraged to report them to BMTC helplines.
