The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) reported a 107.75% year-on-year surge in electric passenger vehicle retail sales for June 2026, reaching 31,823 units compared to 15,318 units in June 2025. This growth marks a significant acceleration in EV adoption across India.
Electric Passenger Vehicles
In addition to the annual jump, electric PV sales rose 19.27% month-on-month from 26,682 units in May 2026. The share of electric passenger vehicles in the overall PV market improved to 7.7% in June 2026, up from 6.6% in May 2026 and 4.8% in June 2025, indicating steady penetration.
Electric Two-Wheelers
Electric two-wheelers recorded a 74.98% year-on-year increase, with retail sales reaching 1,93,735 units in June 2026 compared to 1,10,719 units in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, sales grew 13.47% from 1,70,733 units in May 2026. The segment's market share rose to 10.6% in June 2026, from 9.3% in May 2026 and 7.0% in June 2025.
Electric Three-Wheelers
The electric three-wheeler segment maintained strong momentum, with retail sales up 27.38% year-on-year to 77,448 units in June 2026 from 60,802 units a year earlier. Month-on-month sales increased 7.77% from 71,867 units in May 2026. Electric three-wheelers continued to dominate the segment, accounting for 64.1% of total three-wheeler retail sales in June 2026, slightly down from 64.4% in May 2026 but up from 58.4% in June 2025.
Commercial Electric Vehicles
The commercial electric vehicle segment posted the strongest growth, with retail sales surging 163.7% year-on-year to 3,214 units in June 2026 from 1,219 units in June 2025. Month-on-month sales rose 33.92% from 2,400 units in May 2026. The market share of electric commercial vehicles improved to 3.53% in June 2026, up from 2.86% in May 2026 and 1.57% in June 2025.
The FADA data underscores continued robust growth in electric vehicle adoption across major categories, with market penetration improving notably in two-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles. According to FADA, the trend reflects increasing consumer acceptance and supportive policies.
