Forex Trader Robbed of Rs 25.9 Lakh in Pune Pepper Spray Attack

The Sahakarnagar police have launched a search for four men who allegedly robbed a forex trader of Rs 25.9 lakh after spraying pepper in his face in Dhankawadi on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 9.20 am when the victim, Aniket Kadam (47), a resident of Dhankawadi, was on his way to deposit cash at a bank.

Details of the Robbery

Senior Inspector Vitthal Pawar stated that Kadam runs a small firm engaged in foreign currency trading. He deals in various currencies and accepts investments from clients for forex trading. Kadam collects money either in cash or through online transfers. He regularly visits a bank in Dhankawadi on Mondays to deposit cash collected from clients over the weekend, as banks remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

On Monday, Kadam went to the bank on his two-wheeler. The suspects followed him from his home to the bank on two motorcycles. They intercepted him near the bank and falsely claimed that he had an accident with one of them. An argument ensued, during which one of the suspects pulled out a bottle of pepper and sprayed it on Kadam's face.

Sequence of Events

Unable to open his eyes for several minutes due to the pepper spray, Kadam was defenseless. Taking advantage of the situation, the suspects snatched his bag containing Rs 25.9 lakh and fled the scene. The entire incident was captured by CCTV cameras in the area, and police are currently examining the footage.

Senior Inspector Pawar confirmed that the suspects escaped towards Katraj Chowk after committing the robbery. Police teams are working to identify the vehicles used in the crime and the suspects involved. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the culprits.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of individuals carrying large sums of cash and the need for heightened security measures. The police have urged anyone with information about the robbery to come forward and assist in the investigation.
