India's Evolving Roads Drive Need for Comprehensive Motor Protection
India's Evolving Roads Drive Need for Motor Protection

The rapid evolution of India's road infrastructure and a nearly 20% year-on-year growth in vehicle registrations as of June 2026, according to VAHAN data, are driving demand for more comprehensive motor insurance solutions. Vehicle owners are increasingly seeking holistic coverage that offers protection, flexibility, and convenience beyond standard policies.

Key Motor Insurance Add-Ons for Enhanced Coverage

SBI General Insurance has outlined several motor insurance add-ons that can help customers manage expenses from accidents, damages, and unexpected vehicle-related situations. These add-ons are designed to address specific risks and provide greater peace of mind.

Engine Guard and Battery Guard

The Engine Guard add-on provides protection against water ingress into the engine and gearbox, covering costly repairs. For electric vehicles (EVs), the Battery Guard add-on covers damages to the traction battery, Battery Management System (BMS), and Electric Vehicle Drive System caused by water ingress or short circuits.

Zero Depreciation Cover

Zero Depreciation Cover helps reduce out-of-pocket expenses by eliminating depreciation deductions on eligible parts during an approved claim. This allows customers to receive a higher claim amount and significantly lower repair costs after an accident.

Consumables Cover and Roadside Assistance

Consumables Cover supports complete repairs by covering the cost of consumable items like engine oil, brake oil, lubricants, nuts, bolts, and washers when damaged due to a covered peril. Roadside Assistance provides timely support during breakdowns or emergencies, helping customers continue their journey with minimal disruption.

Industry Perspective on Evolving Needs

Udayan Joshi, Chief Operating Officer of SBI General Insurance, commented, "India's road infrastructure landscape is transforming, with vehicle owners seeking solutions that align with their evolving needs and provide greater confidence on the road. As every customer's requirements differ, the right combination of motor insurance coverage and add-on covers can play an important role in ensuring a more secure ownership experience." He added that the company continues to offer customized motor insurance solutions to strengthen protection and provide timely support.

Comprehensive Coverage and Network Benefits

SBI General Insurance's motor insurance plans provide financial protection against unforeseen events such as accidents, vehicle damage, theft, and natural calamities. The policies include third-party damage cover for injury or death of third parties and damage to third-party property, along with personal accident cover for individual owners and passengers. Customers have access to a network of over 8,400 network garages for hassle-free repair services.

The company offers approximately 20 add-on covers, including enhanced roadside assistance, engine protection, zero depreciation, and tyre and rim secure cover. This allows customers to customize their coverage based on specific requirements and driving habits.
