A city court in Kolkata on Wednesday sent Santanu Sinha Biswas, an accused in a land grab and money laundering case, to judicial custody until June 1. Biswas was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is conducting the investigation into the case.
Security Concerns Raised in Court
During the hearing, the counsel representing Sinha Biswas raised concerns regarding his security inside the correctional home. The lawyer argued that Biswas had previously served in several police stations and could potentially face threats from criminals he had earlier helped arrest.
Another Accused Seeks Medical Treatment
Another individual implicated in the case, Sona Pappu, sought permission from the court to continue his medical treatment while in custody. The court also remanded him to judicial custody until June 1.
The ED is probing the allegations of land grabbing and money laundering, which involve multiple accused. The court's decision to send both individuals to judicial custody underscores the seriousness of the charges. The next hearing is expected after the custody period ends.
