Gurgaon: The cyber crime police have arrested three men for allegedly operating a fraudulent investment and insurance scheme through a call centre, cheating people out of lakhs of rupees by enticing them with fake insurance policies and government bond schemes.
Accused Identified
The accused have been identified as Udit Chopra (31), Jitesh Kumar Srivastava (34), and Himanshu Premi alias Sardar (32). All three are originally from Delhi and currently reside in Ghaziabad.
Modus Operandi
According to police, the trio defrauded a resident of nearly Rs 26 lakh by posing as representatives of One Server Capital Advice LLP. They convinced the victim to invest in insurance policies and government bonds. The case was registered at the cyber crime police station in Manesar on January 21 after the victim filed a complaint alleging fraud.
Investigation Details
Investigators discovered that Himanshu and Jitesh had previously worked with an insurance company in Ghaziabad and allegedly used company data to identify and contact potential targets. Police said the two later set up a call centre where callers misled victims into investing in fake schemes. Udit was allegedly hired to make fraudulent calls.
During the investigation, police traced the defrauded amount to a bank account from which cash was withdrawn through ATM and cheque transactions. Two accused, Shyam and Arjun Singh, who allegedly withdrew money through ATMs, were arrested earlier on May 6. Another accused, Dharmendra Singh, who arranged SIM cards, and Amit Kumar Yadav alias Satyam, who withdrew cash, were arrested from Uttar Pradesh on May 8.
Police recovered 13 mobile phones, seven SIM cards, and Rs 50,000 in cash from the three accused arrested in Ghaziabad on May 25. Jitesh and Himanshu were remanded to three days of police custody, while Udit was sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
