Chennai: Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a burglary at the residence of a weaver in Kosavanpettai village, located near Periyapalayam. The incident came to light when Vijayakumar, the weaver, and his wife returned home on the morning of May 28 after visiting a nearby temple. They discovered that the roof tiles had been broken and their almirah was damaged. Upon inspection, they found that approximately five sovereigns of gold and ₹80,000 in cash had been stolen from their house.
Investigation and Arrests
Following a thorough investigation, the police apprehended two suspects: Ganesan, aged 24, and Gunasekaran, aged 27. Both are residents of the same village. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and revealed that they had buried the stolen items along the banks of the Arani River. Acting on this information, the police recovered three-and-a-half sovereigns of gold and ₹41,000 in cash from the location.
Recovery and Legal Proceedings
The recovered gold and cash have been seized as evidence. The police are continuing their investigation to determine if the accused were involved in any other similar crimes in the area. The arrested individuals have been produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody. Further details regarding the case are awaited.
