Air India CEO Campbell Wilson announced that the airline may wind back its recent flight reductions if the trend of moderating fuel prices persists. Speaking on Thursday, Wilson highlighted that sustained lower fuel costs could enable the carrier to restore capacity and frequency on certain routes.
New Aircraft to Boost Fleet
Wilson also revealed that around eight more new or retrofitted wide-body aircraft would enter service this year, including a new Boeing 787-9 arriving this weekend. This expansion aims to enhance Air India's long-haul operations and improve passenger experience.
Impact of Fuel Prices on Operations
The airline had previously trimmed flight schedules due to high jet fuel costs, which significantly impact operating expenses. According to Wilson, if the current downward trend in fuel prices continues, Air India will consider reinstating those flights. "We are closely monitoring fuel price movements, and a sustained moderation would allow us to reverse the cuts," he said.
