Chuk, the flagship brand of Ayodhya-based regenerative packaging manufacturer Pakka Limited, has launched the 'Restaurants Who Care Club' to help restaurants communicate their use of eco-friendly tableware to customers. The initiative addresses a growing demand among diners who want to know how their food is sourced, packed, and served, not just how it tastes.
Club Aims to Bridge the Visibility Gap
Many restaurants that choose compostable tableware pay a premium for it, but their efforts often go unnoticed by customers. The Restaurants Who Care Club provides member restaurants with a display kit that includes an entrance sticker, table-tent cards, tray liners, a wall certificate, and a billing-counter display. This makes the sustainability choice visible at the point of dining.
According to Shubham Tibrewal, Business Head (Food Service) at Pakka Limited, “The Restaurants Who Care Club enables restaurants to show they have made a responsible choice by opting for sustainable tableware to serve food to customers. It gives even the smallest cafe the same storytelling power that a large national chain enjoys.”
48 Restaurants Enrolled, Aiming for 10,000 by 2030
The club has already enrolled 48 restaurants across India and aims to reach 10,000 by 2030. Any restaurant that serves food in Chuk tableware is eligible to join, and members receive their kit through the local Chuk representative.
Restaurants using Chuk tableware have collectively reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by approximately 10 lakh kg CO₂e per year, equivalent to planting around 45,455 trees.
Customer Response and Trust Building
Jaypradeep Khatri, Founder of Rasodu, a Gujarati snack parlour in Bengaluru, noted that diners have started to notice the tableware. “We had always used Chuk because it felt like the right thing to do. Now our customers ask us about it, and that conversation has become a reason they trust us,” he said.
Deva Shetty, Procurement & Operations Head at Bamboo House in Pune, added that growing customer awareness around sustainability influenced their decision to switch. “People today are actively looking for alternatives to plastic. Using tableware made from sugarcane fibre allows us to meet those expectations,” he said.
