Telangana Targets $1 Trillion Economy, Fast-Tracks Hyderabad Global City Plan
Telangana Aims for $1 Trillion Economy, Hyderabad Global City

The Telangana government, aiming to transform the state into a $1 trillion economy by 2034, has accelerated its focus on future-ready infrastructure development in Hyderabad. The goal is to establish the city as a global hub over the next decade.

Telangana Rising Vision 2047

Speaking at the Nasscom GCC Summit 2026 in Mumbai, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu outlined the state's ambitious 'Telangana Rising Vision 2047' framework. Under this plan, Telangana seeks to increase its contribution to India's GDP to 10% by 2047 by attracting large-scale international investments.

Infrastructure Development Strategy

Addressing a session titled 'Beyond Policy: Designed to Win the Global GCC Race', Sridhar Babu emphasized that rapid infrastructure development in Hyderabad is crucial to support unprecedented enterprise growth. He stressed the importance of long-term planning and future-ready infrastructure to prevent urban collapse, a challenge faced by many global cities.

The minister discussed critical issues such as sustainability and the 'urban load' that often stifles innovation due to traffic congestion and resource scarcity. He elaborated on the state's aggressive future-proofing strategy, which centers on making Hyderabad a net-zero urban ecosystem. Key projects include Bharat Future City, a dedicated AI City, metro rail expansion, new airports, the 340-km Regional Ring Road, Musi river rejuvenation, Young India Skills University, and the AIKAM Innovation Hub.

"We are running at the speed of double-digit industrial growth," Sridhar Babu said, praising successive governments for their foresight in building a world-class airport and Outer Ring Road despite initial criticism. "In the next 10 years, we are going to double the size of Hyderabad's infrastructure."

Growth in Global Capability Centres

Hyderabad is increasingly becoming a preferred destination for global capability centres (GCCs) across various sectors, including technology, banking and financial services, life sciences, semiconductors, defence, FMCG, space technology, and hospitality. In 2025, more than 70 GCCs were established in Hyderabad, the highest in the country. The state targets another 100 GCCs this year, with the potential to generate one lakh jobs.

The minister announced that the state is preparing a roadmap to transform GCCs from conventional back-office units into 'global value centres' and innovation hubs.

Investment and Talent Ecosystem

Inviting companies to invest in Telangana and Hyderabad, Sridhar Babu noted that the world's top five tech giants—Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Nvidia—along with seven of the world's top 10 semiconductor companies, have anchored their future in Hyderabad.

He highlighted Hyderabad's talent ecosystem, emphasizing cross-sectoral expertise that allows companies to draw from technology, finance, AI, and defence talent pools. "Hyderabad gives you something no other city can: the ability to cross-pollinate talent. A financial GCC in Hyderabad doesn't just hire bankers; it hires from an ecosystem that designs AI models, builds global digital platforms, and includes security specialists from the defence vertical," he said.

Nasscom chairman Srikant Velamakanni and president Rajesh Nambiar were among those present at the summit.
