Two persons were killed and four others sustained injuries in a ghastly road accident reported near the Siriguppa road junction on the outskirts of Adoni in Kurnool district late on Tuesday night. Preliminary police investigation revealed that a speeding sport utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into a motorcycle near the junction, resulting in the instantaneous deaths of 69-year-old Boya Rangamma and 52-year-old Marri Swamy. The collision caused the SUV to flip over on the tarmac, leaving four other passengers inside the vehicle with injuries ranging from minor to severe. Upon receiving information, Adoni police promptly rushed to the accident site. They shifted the four injured individuals to the local government hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem examination. A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and an investigation is currently underway.
Recurring Road Safety Concerns
The recurrence of severe vehicular crashes on the outskirts of Adoni has raised sharp concerns among local residents regarding road safety and speeding. Barely a month prior to this tragedy, another horrific road mishap on the town’s fringes claimed the lives of four travelers from Karnataka. That incident prompted renewed demands from the community for better highway lighting, installation of speed breakers, and stricter night-time patrolling by law enforcement agencies.
Local authorities are under pressure to address these safety issues to prevent further loss of life. The latest accident has once again highlighted the urgent need for effective traffic management measures on this stretch of road.
