Central Railway has announced the cancellation of 30 trains on the Mumbai-Pune corridor from July 10 to July 17 due to essential maintenance work. The move is expected to impact thousands of daily commuters who rely on this busy route for travel between the two major cities.
Reason for Cancellation
According to a Central Railway official, the cancellations are necessary to carry out track maintenance and repair work. The maintenance is part of routine infrastructure upgrades aimed at ensuring safety and improving service reliability. The official stated, "We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers, but these works are essential for the long-term benefit of the rail network."

Impact on Commuters
The Mumbai-Pune corridor is one of the busiest rail routes in India, carrying over 1.5 lakh passengers daily. The cancellation of 30 trains is expected to cause significant inconvenience, especially for daily commuters and business travelers. Many passengers have expressed frustration on social media, with some calling for alternative arrangements such as additional bus services.
Central Railway has assured that alternative train services will be available on the route, though with limited frequency. Passengers holding tickets for cancelled trains are eligible for a full refund. The refund can be claimed online via the IRCTC website or at railway station counters.
Alternate Arrangements
To mitigate the impact, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced additional bus services on the Mumbai-Pune highway. Private bus operators are also expected to increase their frequency. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative modes of transport.
Central Railway has also deployed extra staff at major stations like Mumbai CSMT, Dadar, Thane, and Pune to assist passengers. Informative announcements and signage have been put up to guide travelers.
