Chhattisgarh Ramps Up Mining Sector with Tribal Focus and Technology
Chhattisgarh is actively boosting its mining sector through a strategic focus on critical minerals, tribal-led tin operations, and transparent e-auctions. Mining Secretary P Dayanand detailed these initiatives on Thursday, highlighting a tighter, technology-driven approach to managing the state's mineral resources.
Revenue Growth and Mineral Diversity
Dayanand reported a significant increase in mining revenue over the past two years. He attributed this success to the preparation and auction of mineral blocks for exploration and mining. More than 28 different types of minerals are found across Chhattisgarh, providing a diverse base for economic development.
Tin Mining Empowers Tribal Communities
Tin, classified as a critical mineral, has emerged as a vital livelihood source for scheduled tribe communities in the Bastar region. The Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) directly purchases tin ore from tribal miners, ensuring fair compensation and support for local livelihoods.
A dedicated TIN (Tribal Incentive for Natural Resources) online portal is currently under development. This portal will facilitate real-time digital payments to beneficiaries, enhancing transparency and efficiency in the mining process.
Collaborations and Transparent Auctions
Chhattisgarh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Coal India for joint exploration and mining of critical minerals. A joint working committee will oversee this collaboration, aiming to leverage expertise and resources for optimal results.
In the iron ore sector, the state has achieved record-high sale prices and competitive mining rates. Dayanand emphasized that these outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of transparent e-auctions in driving revenue and ensuring fair market practices.
The state's comprehensive strategy combines technological innovation with community engagement, positioning Chhattisgarh as a leader in sustainable and profitable mining practices.
