Jewar to Become North India's Silicon Valley

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw jointly launched a landmark Rs 6,750 crore electronics manufacturing project in Jewar on Tuesday. The project, touted as a game-changer for the region, is expected to transform Jewar into North India's Silicon Valley, creating thousands of jobs and boosting the state's economy.

Project Details and Investment

The project, named the 'Jewar Electronics Manufacturing Cluster', will be developed over 350 acres and is expected to attract investments worth Rs 6,750 crore. It will house facilities for manufacturing semiconductors, printed circuit boards, and other electronic components. The cluster is part of the government's broader push to make India a global hub for electronics manufacturing under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

According to officials, the project will generate direct employment for over 25,000 people and indirect jobs for another 50,000. The cluster will also include a dedicated research and development center, training facilities, and common infrastructure for testing and certification.

Strategic Location and Connectivity

Jewar, already home to the upcoming Noida International Airport, is being developed as a major industrial and logistics hub. The electronics cluster will benefit from its proximity to the airport, the Yamuna Expressway, and the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. This connectivity will enable easy access to domestic and international markets, making it an attractive destination for global electronics companies.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat). He stated, "This project will not only boost the electronics manufacturing ecosystem but also create a ripple effect across ancillary industries, putting Uttar Pradesh on the global map of electronics production."

Impact on Local Economy

The project is expected to catalyze the development of the entire Jewar region, including the planned Noida International Airport and the upcoming Film City. Real estate developers have already reported increased interest in the area, with land prices appreciating significantly. Local businesses, from hospitality to logistics, are expected to benefit from the influx of workers and companies.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the government's commitment to reducing India's dependence on electronics imports. He said, "India currently imports over $50 billion worth of electronics annually. Projects like these will help us become a net exporter in the coming years. Jewar will become a symbol of India's technological prowess."

Government Support and Incentives

The Uttar Pradesh government has offered a comprehensive package of incentives to attract investors to the cluster, including subsidized land, power tariff concessions, and single-window clearance for approvals. The state's Electronics Manufacturing Policy 2023 provides additional benefits such as capital subsidies, interest subvention, and reimbursement of stamp duty.

Industry bodies like the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) have welcomed the initiative. ESC Chairman Sandeep Narula said, "This project is a testament to the government's proactive approach. Jewar has the potential to become a hub not just for manufacturing but also for innovation in electronics."

Challenges and Future Outlook

While the project has been widely praised, experts caution that its success will depend on timely implementation and the availability of skilled labor. The government has announced plans to set up training centers in collaboration with institutes like IIT Kanpur and NIT Patna to address the skills gap.

The first phase of the cluster is expected to be operational by 2026, with full completion targeted by 2028. Once fully functional, the Jewar Electronics Manufacturing Cluster is projected to contribute over Rs 50,000 crore annually to the state's GDP.
