Nagpur Industries Address LPG Crisis with Emergency PNG Infrastructure Meeting
In a critical response to ongoing industrial fuel shortages, the MIDC Industries Association (MIA) held an emergency meeting on Monday at Udhyog Bhavan in Nagpur. The gathering focused specifically on reviewing the implementation of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure within Hingna MIDC, following state directives concerning city gas distribution (CGD) networks.
Addressing Production Disruptions from LPG Shortages
The emergency session was prompted by severe disruptions in industrial production across multiple MIDC units, stemming from a persistent shortage of LPG for industrial applications. This supply crisis has created significant operational challenges for manufacturers and processors reliant on this fuel source.
Chaired by MIA President P Mohan, the meeting included prominent office-bearers Ganesh Jaiswal and Arun Lanjewar, alongside MIDC officials and representatives from Haryana City Gas Pvt Ltd (HCG). This collaborative approach underscores the urgency of resolving the fuel supply issues affecting the industrial sector.
Infrastructure Development and Interim Solutions
During discussions, HCG formally requested land allocation within MIDC premises to establish a crucial decompression unit. This facility is essential because the gas supplied through pipelines arrives at high pressure and requires careful regulation before distribution to industrial consumers.
"MIDC has identified several potential locations for this critical facility, and formal procedures are currently underway," explained President P Mohan. "We are awaiting a detailed proposal from HCG to move forward with the land allocation process. Meanwhile, pipeline-laying operations have already commenced in specific sections of Hingna MIDC."
Mohan further clarified that industries seeking PNG connections will need to provide a deposit to initiate the connection process. As an interim measure to address immediate needs, HCG has agreed to supply gas through cascades or cylinders to units facing urgent requirements.
Association Mediation and Global Supply Challenges
The MIA is actively serving as a mediator between MIDC authorities and HCG to facilitate coordination and ensure timely implementation of the PNG infrastructure project. This intermediary role is crucial for streamlining communication and resolving potential bottlenecks in the development process.
Association representatives highlighted the growing difficulties faced by industries dependent on LPG, attributing these challenges to global supply chain disruptions that have affected fuel availability worldwide. In response, MIA urged HCG to accelerate pipeline-laying activities in Hingna and ensure the timely rollout of comprehensive PNG infrastructure.
Land Allocation and Implementation Roadmap
The association specifically requested MIDC to allocate land for a District Regulatory Facility (DRF), receiving positive responses from officials who asked HCG to submit a formal proposal for consideration. This regulatory facility would play a vital role in managing gas distribution throughout the industrial zone.
HCG representatives confirmed that pipeline development has already begun in key industrial zones, including Hingna, where current LPG demand is estimated between 50 and 75 metric tonnes. The company indicated that a phased, time-bound roadmap for transitioning industries from LPG to PNG is expected to be finalized in the near future, providing clarity on implementation timelines and milestones.
This comprehensive approach addresses both immediate fuel supply concerns through interim cylinder arrangements and long-term infrastructure development through the PNG pipeline network, representing a strategic response to the industrial energy challenges facing Nagpur's manufacturing sector.
