Nagpur district has witnessed an unprecedented surge in industrial commitments, securing investments worth a staggering Rs 1 lakh crore over the past year. This remarkable achievement is largely attributed to the proactive initiatives led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also represents the South-West Nagpur constituency.
Major Investors and Projects Transforming Nagpur's Landscape
The investment drive has seen leading corporate giants pledging substantial capital. A review of the year highlights significant commitments secured during events like the Davos investment summit, with the Vidarbha region and Nagpur emerging as prime beneficiaries. The Additional Butibori Industrial Area, one of the largest such zones, has been at the forefront, attracting investments of Rs 1.07 lakh crore.
Key players fueling this growth include:
- Pernod Ricard India Pvt Ltd with Rs 1,785 crore for liquor manufacturing.
- Avaada Electro Pvt Ltd committing Rs 13,646 crore.
- JSW Energy PSP investing a massive Rs 25,000 crore.
- Sangam Solar One Pvt Ltd with Rs 11,500 crore.
- JSW Renewable Technologies Ltd with Rs 11,100 crore.
The Avaada Group has already broken ground on its project, while JSW and Sangam Solar One are prepared to commence operations, with plots already allotted to these companies.
Future Pipeline and Job Creation Prospects
The momentum is set to continue with industries expressing strong interest in the upcoming phases of Additional Butibori. Companies have sought 5,140 acres of land in Phases 1, 2, and 3, promising further investments worth Rs 78,844 crore. This pipeline includes major proposals from Reliance Infrastructure Ltd (Rs 20,000 crore), Powerline Energy India Pvt Ltd (Rs 14,624 crore), Jupiter International (Rs 10,000 crore), and Economic Explosives Solar Defence (Rs 12,370 crore). Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are signed, and projects will launch upon land allotment.
Beyond Butibori, the GAIL Group is planning a Rs 10,000 crore fertiliser plant at Saoner. This development is complemented by the proposed Defence Corridor, expected to attract a cluster of arms manufacturing and allied industries to the region.
Infrastructure and Ecosystem Development Driving Growth
The transformation of Nagpur into an industrial powerhouse is being accelerated by improved connectivity, notably the Samruddhi Expressway, which has spurred a surge in land demand. With plots in established areas like Butibori and Hingna becoming scarce, the Additional Butibori zone is rapidly evolving into the new hub for large-scale industries. The state government has already initiated land acquisition for 5,000 acres in the current fiscal year to meet this demand.
The collective impact of these investments is monumental for the local economy. The Industries Department estimates that these ventures are poised to generate over 60,000 jobs, offering a significant boost to employment and economic prosperity in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region.
