Skoda Auto India has created automotive history with the spectacular launch of its performance-oriented Octavia RS sedan, which witnessed unprecedented demand from Indian car enthusiasts. The premium sports variant, introduced earlier this year with a price tag of ₹49.99 lakh (ex-showroom), managed to sell out its entire allocation of 100 units within just 24 hours of opening bookings.
Overwhelming Response and Future Plans
The Czech automaker's decision to bring the Octavia RS as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in limited numbers proved to be a masterstroke, generating massive excitement among performance car aficionados. Despite the premium positioning and substantial price point, the model received approximately 350 bookings against the available 100 units, creating an instant waiting list of disappointed enthusiasts.
Skoda has confirmed that a second batch of the Octavia RS will arrive in India by early 2026, though the exact number of units remains undisclosed. Given the current regulations for CBU vehicles that permit import of up to 2,500 units before local production requirements apply, the company has significant room to accommodate more customers in subsequent batches.
Performance and Power Specifications
At the heart of the Octavia RS lies a formidable 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers exceptional performance metrics. The powerplant generates an impressive 261 bhp of peak power and 370 Nm of maximum torque, making it one of the most potent sedans in its segment.
The transmission duties are handled by a sophisticated 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox that channels power to the front wheels, ensuring rapid acceleration and seamless gear shifts that complement the car's sporty character.
Premium Features and Design Elements
The Octavia RS stands out with its sharp, contemporary design that aligns with Skoda's latest global design philosophy. The exterior features distinctive elements including all-LED lighting and gloss black finishes that enhance its athletic appeal.
Inside the cabin, occupants are treated to a host of premium amenities including dual digital displays with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, multiple drive and steering modes, and specially designed sport seats. The interior follows an all-black theme accentuated by red stitching, creating a cockpit-like environment that appeals to driving enthusiasts.
Additional convenience features include a 360-degree surround view camera that aids in parking and maneuvering this performance machine in tight spaces.
The phenomenal response to the Octavia RS underscores the strong fan following that the Octavia brand commands in India and demonstrates that there remains significant appetite for high-performance sedans despite the growing popularity of SUVs in the Indian automotive market.
