Suzlon Unveils India's Tallest and Most Powerful Wind Turbine S175 (5 MW)

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, launched Suzlon's S175 (5 MW) wind turbine, India's tallest and most powerful, following its successful commissioning at Vijayanagar, Karnataka. This launch marks a strategic step in unlocking the next phase of wind energy growth in India.

The S175 is India's first FDRE-ready turbine, enabling wind energy to play a larger role in the country's energy transition. Engineered with insights from over 30 years of operational data from Suzlon's 15.5 GW turbine fleet, it combines proven reliability with next-generation technology for higher energy generation and improved project economics in low to medium wind regimes.

With a 175-meter rotor, a 160-meter hybrid lattice tower, and a 247.5-meter blade tip height, the S175 accesses stronger, steadier wind layers. Its advanced aerodynamics, carbon girder blade technology, and intelligent control systems deliver superior performance, making it suitable for hybrid, round-the-clock, and firm power solutions.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated, "Suzlon has been the pride of India for the last 30 years, consistently delivering next-generation innovations. The launch of the S175 5 MW turbine will go a long way in ensuring we meet our wind energy ambitions both domestically and globally."

Girish Tanti, Executive Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, added, "The S175 is engineered specifically for Indian wind conditions, grid realities, and operating environments. Its biggest breakthrough lies in making previously unviable wind sites viable, expanding the wind addressable markets."

This development underscores India's growing strength in advanced clean energy innovation and supports the nation's renewable energy targets.
