Worker Killed, 4 Injured in Power Pole Accident

Dehradun: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday when a 31-year-old worker from Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district lost his life, and four others sustained severe injuries after an electricity pole they were installing came into contact with an 11kV power line near Om City in Patel Nagar, officials reported on Tuesday.

Details of the Accident

The deceased, identified as Umesh Kumar, died on the spot. The four other workers, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, suffered serious burn injuries and were immediately taken to a private hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Employment and Project Background

All five workers were employed through a contractor hired by a private company executing a project under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). This centrally sponsored program aims to enhance power distribution infrastructure across the country.

Police Investigation Underway

Patel Nagar police station SHO Vinod Gusain stated that the body was sent for post-mortem and later handed over to the family. He added, "We are investigating whether adequate safety measures were in place at the site and whether protocols for carrying out work near live power lines were followed." Officials noted that no formal complaint has been filed in the matter so far.
