Tirupattur-Hosur Railway Line: Rs 4,000 Crore Project Report Submitted to Centre

A comprehensive detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed railway line connecting Tirupattur and Hosur has been formally prepared and submitted to the Central Government. According to the DPR, the ambitious Tirupattur-Hosur railway line is projected to be constructed at a substantial cost of Rs 4,000 crore.

Technical Specifications and Route Details

A Southern Railway official confirmed that new tracks will be laid over a distance of 109.24 kilometers. The tracks will be laid using state-of-the-art technology, with infrastructure facilities meticulously planned to enable trains to travel at speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour on this route. The official emphasized that this modern approach will enhance efficiency and safety.

The railway line will traverse through several key locations, including:

  • Kandili
  • Bargur
  • Krishnagiri
  • Polupalli
  • Chinnar
  • Shoolagiri

New railway stations will be constructed at all six of these places to serve the local communities and facilitate connectivity.

Land Acquisition and Project Timeline

For the project, significant land acquisition is planned. Approximately 64.435 acres of land will be acquired in Tirupattur district, while a larger area of 335.69 acres will be acquired in Krishnagiri district. The official stated that work on the new railway line and the construction of railway stations will commence once funds are allocated by the government, indicating that financial approval is the next critical step.

Historical Context and Economic Demand

Recently, a consultative meeting was held in Krishnagiri, attended by officials from the Railways and the Tamil Nadu government, along with industrialists, traders, and other stakeholders. The demand for train services between Tirupattur and Hosur has grown significantly due to the expansion of industries in the Hosur area, which has increased employment and business opportunities for residents in Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri districts.

Officials recalled a historical precedent: in 1905, a narrow gauge railway line was laid for 42 kilometers from Tirupattur to Krishnagiri via Bargur. Train services operated on this route but were discontinued more than 80 years ago during World War II, when various railway lines across the country were closed. Specifically, the Tirupattur-Krishnagiri route was closed in 1942, highlighting the long gap in rail connectivity that this new project aims to address.

This new railway line represents a major infrastructure development for Tamil Nadu, promising to boost regional connectivity, support economic growth, and revive a historical rail link with modern enhancements. The submission of the DPR marks a pivotal step forward in realizing this vision, pending further governmental approvals and funding allocations.
