Wormwood Hotels Unveils Major Rs 100 Crore Expansion Plan for Bengal and Beyond
In a significant development for the hospitality sector, Kolkata-based Wormwood Hotels has announced a substantial investment of Rs 100 crore aimed at expanding its presence across Bengal and other regions. This strategic move is poised to invigorate the local economy while generating a substantial number of employment opportunities.

The company has projected that this expansion will create 500 direct and 800 indirect jobs, totaling 1,300 new positions. This initiative is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the regional economy, particularly in areas where new properties are set to open.
Founder's Vision and Immediate Focus
Speaking about the group's ambitious roadmap, founder Soumya Sengupta emphasized that the immediate priority is on strengthening their foothold in their home state. "Our target is to invest around Rs 50 crore in the next three months," Sengupta stated. He added that the remaining funds would be deployed strategically over time to ensure sustainable growth.
Scouting for Prime Locations and New Openings
Currently, Wormwood Hotels is actively scouting for prime properties in Kolkata while finalizing plans for new openings in several key locations across Bengal. These include:
- Siliguri
- Shantiniketan
- Digha
- Newtown
- The Sundarbans
This expansion marks a significant step in the brand's growth trajectory, building on its existing operations in Puri, Bhagalpur, Darjeeling, and Varanasi.
Long-Term Ambitions and Future Outlook
When asked about his vision for the brand in the coming years, Sengupta revealed ambitious plans. "We will have at least 25 hotels in our pocket within five years," he declared, highlighting the company's commitment to rapid and strategic expansion beyond its current portfolio.
