Gurgaon's Sector 56 Road Remains in Poor State for Three Years, Residents Voice Frustration

In Gurgaon, a critical 1.5-kilometer connecting road in Sector 56 has been languishing in a state of disrepair for the past three years, despite repeated complaints from local residents to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG). This stretch, which serves as a vital link between KH Ara Marg and Golf Course Road, is a primary access route for numerous housing societies and has not undergone any major recarpeting in over five years.

Residents Highlight Deteriorating Conditions and Health Concerns

Deep potholes, uneven surfaces, and escalating dust levels have progressively worsened over time, making commuting on this road increasingly challenging. Sanjeev Shrivastava, a member of the Kendriya Vihar Residents' Welfare Association (RWA), emphasized that the road's condition has deteriorated further in the past three years, despite multiple complaints lodged with the civic authorities.

Another resident, SN Labh, pointed out that repairs have been limited to filling potholes with gravel and loose material instead of proper resurfacing, which has only exacerbated the situation. The rising dust not only affects visibility but also raises significant health concerns, particularly for children and elderly individuals who often avoid stepping out due to these hazardous conditions.

MCG Officials Promise Long-Term Solution Amid Temporary Measures

In response to the growing discontent, MCG officials have stated that a comprehensive plan is in the pipeline to address the issue. An MCG official revealed that the road has been earmarked for redevelopment as a model road, with an estimated cost of around Rs 8 crore. The proposal includes resurfacing, drainage work, fencing along the green belt, and the installation of road safety features.

The official added that the case will be presented before the finance and contracts committee for approval, and once sanctioned, the work will commence promptly. In the interim, potholes are being filled to provide temporary relief to the affected residents.

Broader Implications for Gurgaon's Infrastructure Development

This situation underscores broader challenges in Gurgaon's infrastructure development, where temporary fixes often fail to address underlying issues. Residents argue that as a main connecting road used by thousands daily, it should have been a priority for the civic body to ensure proper maintenance and timely upgrades.

The ongoing neglect highlights gaps in service delivery and the need for more proactive measures from local authorities to enhance the quality of life in rapidly urbanizing areas like Gurgaon.
