Major Infrastructure Boost for Jaipur: NHAI Greenlights Rs 130.65 Crore Project
In a significant development aimed at alleviating chronic traffic woes, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially issued a work order for a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade at Jaipur's crucial 200-feet bypass junction on National Highway-48. The ambitious project, valued at approximately Rs 130.65 crore, involves the construction of two underpasses and two flyovers, with construction slated to commence imminently and a targeted completion date set for 2028.
Project Details and Strategic Design
Executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, this initiative is designed to transform one of the city's most congested intersections. According to NHAI Project Director Ajay Arya, the plan includes two dedicated underpasses: one facilitating seamless traffic flow from Delhi to Mansarovar and another for the reverse route from Mansarovar to Delhi. Complementing these are two strategically planned flyovers—one to manage Jaipur to Ajmer traffic and another for Ajmer to Delhi traffic.
"Once operational, these new structures are projected to dramatically ease congestion, enhance road safety, and save commuters considerable time and fuel," Arya emphasized, highlighting the multifaceted benefits of the upgrade.
Addressing Urban Expansion and Traffic Pressure
The necessity for this project stems from Jaipur's rapid urban expansion over recent years. Originally marking the city's periphery, the 200-feet bypass has witnessed substantial development, with new residential colonies, commercial hubs, hospitals, and hotels springing up along Ajmer Road. This growth has exponentially increased traffic volume at the junction, creating a bottleneck where national highway and local traffic intersect.
An official involved in the project underscored the junction's critical role, stating, "The current 200-feet junction is a vital high-traffic intersection in Jaipur, connecting Delhi, Ajmer, and key urban areas like Mansarovar, Shyam Nagar, and Vaishali Nagar. The dense residential surroundings and heavy traffic mix lead to significant daily congestion."
Enhanced Connectivity and Economic Impact
Beyond easing traffic, the infrastructure upgrade promises improved connectivity to the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and various hospitals and hotels located on Ajmer Road before the toll plaza. This enhancement is expected to bolster local economic activity and support further development in the region.
The comprehensive overhaul at this strategic junction is poised to address long-standing mobility challenges, offering a smoother and more efficient travel experience for thousands of daily commuters. As Jaipur continues to grow, such infrastructural investments are crucial for sustaining urban livability and economic vitality.
