UP Launches 7 COEs for Startups with Rs 27 Crore Budget

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step forward in its Start-up UP policy. Officials have begun establishing seven modern Centres of Excellence across the state. These COEs aim to guide startup founders and entrepreneurs through dedicated research and development initiatives.

Substantial Budget Allocation for Innovation Hubs

Authorities have already released a budget of Rs 27.18 crore to set up these specialized centres. The funding will support infrastructure development and operational costs during the initial phases.

Diverse Technological Focus Areas

Each centre will concentrate on specific high-growth technology sectors. The identified domains include blockchain technology, medical electronics, artificial intelligence, health informatics, data analytics, telecommunications, and drone technology. These COEs will provide crucial technical support to emerging startups in these fields.

Premier Institutes Take Leadership Roles

Leading educational institutions like IITs and IIMs will spearhead these initiatives. They will handhold the industry through mentorship and research collaboration. Officials expect the Centres of Excellence to generate their own revenue streams within five years. This financial independence will make them self-reliant and sustainable in the long term.

Blockchain Technology Centre in Gautam Budh Nagar

The blockchain technology centre established in Gautam Budh Nagar represents a notable collaboration. IIM Lucknow's enterprise incubation centre operates this facility with support from Microsoft. Over the next five years, this centre plans to mentor approximately 100 startups. Experts from the centre are already providing guidance to entrepreneurs.

Medical Electronics Hub in Lucknow

In Lucknow, the Medical Electronics and Health Informatics centre has taken shape. This MedTech facility received development support from multiple stakeholders including STPI and SGPGI. It focuses on advancing healthcare technology through innovation.

Telecommunications Research in Kanpur

Kanpur hosts the 5G/6G telecom Centre of Excellence. This facility will conduct cutting-edge research on next-generation telecommunication technologies. It positions Uttar Pradesh at the forefront of telecom innovation in India.

The establishment of these seven Centres of Excellence demonstrates Uttar Pradesh's commitment to fostering technological innovation. By providing specialized support across multiple domains, the state government aims to create a vibrant startup ecosystem that can compete nationally and globally.
