Apeejay Shipping Launches Dedicated Andaman Service with New Vessel

In a significant move to bolster maritime connectivity, Apeejay Shipping, a key division of the Apeejay Surendra Group, has acquired a state-of-the-art 3,000-tonne multi-purpose container vessel. This vessel, named APJ Karan 2, is equipped with two powerful 60-tonne cranes, enabling it to handle a diverse range of cargo efficiently. The acquisition marks the launch of a dedicated shipping service to the Andaman Islands, with the maiden voyage to Port Blair scheduled for March.

Enhancing Logistics Infrastructure

The new service will operate with regular scheduled departures from Kolkata, catering to a broad spectrum of cargo requirements. This initiative is designed to strengthen maritime connectivity and significantly enhance the logistics infrastructure for the Andaman region. By providing reliable and frequent shipping options, Apeejay Shipping aims to support trade and economic growth in this strategic area.

Recent Fleet Expansion

This development follows Apeejay Shipping's recent fleet expansion efforts. In September of last year, the company announced the acquisition of two Kamsarmax bulk carriersAPJ Priya 2 and APJ Priti 2. These vessels, originally built in Japan, underwent refurbishment and were equipped with advanced scrubber technology to meet modern environmental standards. They were inducted into the company's operations in July and August 2025, further solidifying Apeejay Shipping's commitment to expanding its maritime capabilities.

The introduction of the APJ Karan 2 vessel underscores Apeejay Shipping's strategic focus on improving regional connectivity and logistics. With its advanced features and regular service schedule, this initiative is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating smoother cargo movement to and from the Andaman Islands, contributing to the overall development of the region's maritime sector.
