Shillong Hosts Successful PM Vishwakarma Exhibition for Meghalaya Artisans

A vibrant celebration of Meghalaya's rich craft heritage concluded successfully in Shillong as the PM Vishwakarma Exhibition wrapped up on Friday. The two-day state-level event brought together over 100 artisans and entrepreneurs representing all 12 districts of Meghalaya, creating a dynamic platform for traditional crafts and modern entrepreneurship.

Strong Market Response and Economic Impact

The exhibition demonstrated significant commercial success, recording over ₹5.5 lakh in total revenue according to official statements. This impressive figure reflects strong public response and growing consumer demand for authentic, locally handcrafted products from Meghalaya. The event provided artisans with direct market exposure that translated into immediate financial benefits while building valuable customer relationships.

Comprehensive Support and Training Initiatives

Organized by the Union ministry of micro, small & medium enterprises (MSME) in collaboration with the commerce & industries department of the Meghalaya government, the exhibition offered much more than just sales opportunities. Technical sessions covered crucial topics including marketing strategies, product packaging, design innovation, credit access, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) norms, and cluster development.

These sessions empowered artisans to enhance product quality, access new markets, and scale their enterprises effectively. The state has made substantial progress under the PM Vishwakarma scheme over the past year, with more than 14,000 applications received, over 350 awareness camps conducted, and 321 artisans trained across multiple disciplines.

Strengthening Institutional Support and Digital Growth

The official statement highlighted that Meghalaya has significantly strengthened credit linkages and expanded digital on-boarding for artisans. The government of Meghalaya reaffirmed its commitment to supporting traditional artisans through stronger convergence, improved market access, and holistic capacity building initiatives.

This exhibition represents a crucial step in preserving Meghalaya's cultural heritage while equipping local artisans with the tools needed to thrive in modern markets. The successful event demonstrates how traditional crafts can drive economic growth when supported by strategic government initiatives and enthusiastic public participation.
