Mangaluru: With Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2026 results expected shortly, uncertainty over delayed CBSE class 12 revaluation outcomes is heightening anxiety among aspirants across the state, particularly those who have sought rechecking or are preparing for improvement examinations.
Students who appeared for KCET and simultaneously applied for CBSE revaluation say they are still waiting for updated marks, leaving them unsure how their final scores will be reflected in admission processes. Many allege evaluation errors this year, and claim their board marks are significantly lower than expected, prompting a surge in revaluation requests.
The delay is being linked by students and institutions to controversies surrounding the newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and reported technical issues with the revaluation portal. With no clear timeline on when revised marks will be published, students say they are unable to predict their KCET standing, shortlisting choices, or chances of securing preferred courses.
Sources said uncertainty is especially stressful because KCET merit calculations factor in both entrance test and board marks. Students fear that if revaluation results arrive late, their ranking could be adversely affected, potentially pushing them out of sought-after seats during counselling. The concern is compounded for those who have opted for CBSE improvement exams scheduled in the coming days, as they remain unsure how revised scores will align with key KCET timelines.
Rev Fr Rohan D’Almeida, principal of St Aloysius Gonzaga School, said institutions are receiving repeated queries from worried students, but have little information to offer. “Many have been reaching out to us in this regard, but we have no answer for them,” he said, pointing to anxiety among those who wrote KCET as well as those planning further studies.
Mathew C Ninan, director of Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar, Udupi, said students are caught in a difficult situation. He noted that students can upload upgraded marks to the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) portal after ranks are announced, provided it is done before counselling, but added that any prolonged delay could still create confusion and pressure. He expressed hope that authorities would consider adjusting timelines in view of the prevailing uncertainty related to revaluation and alleged evaluation discrepancies. When contacted, Prasanna H, executive director of KEA, said the authority is currently unable to take first-round result data from CBSE’s Delhi office.
Students also said the limbo is affecting those planning admissions outside Karnataka and those exploring higher studies abroad, as documentation requirements and deadlines may not align with delayed revaluation outcomes.
Impact on Aspirants
The delay has left many students in a state of limbo, unable to finalize their college preferences or plan for alternative courses. Some have expressed frustration over the lack of communication from both CBSE and KEA regarding timelines.
Technical Issues with OSM
The On-Screen Marking system, introduced this year, has faced criticism for glitches and inconsistencies. Teachers and students have reported difficulties in accessing revaluation portals and submitting requests.
As the wait continues, students and parents urge authorities to expedite the process and provide clarity to ease the mounting stress.
