The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has released the results for the SSC Examination conducted in February–March 2026, revealing notable regional disparities in academic performance across the state. While the overall pass percentage for regular students stands at 92.09%, division-wise data highlights Konkan's continued dominance and a clear performance gap between coastal/urban regions and interior divisions.
State Overview: Regular Students Benchmark
A total of 15,42,472 regular students appeared for the examination, out of which 14,20,486 successfully passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 92.09%. This aggregate figure, however, masks significant variations across the nine divisional boards.
Division-wise Performance: Konkan Leads the State
The division-wise ranking for SSC 2026 is as follows:
- Konkan: 97.62%
- Kolhapur: 95.47%
- Mumbai: 94.97%
- Pune: 94.24%
- Nashik: 90.53%
- Amravati: 90.50%
- Nagpur: 89.07%
- Latur: 88.42%
- Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: 88.41%
Konkan: Consistent State Leader
Konkan division has once again emerged as the best-performing region in Maharashtra, achieving an exceptional 97.62% pass rate. Despite being one of the smaller divisions in terms of student count, its academic consistency remains unmatched, with the highest pass percentage in the state, a very low failure ratio, and strong school-level consistency. Konkan continues to outperform even larger urban divisions, maintaining its top position.
Mumbai, Pune, and Kolhapur: Urban-Strong Performance Cluster
Mumbai recorded a 94.97% pass rate, continuing as one of the strongest performing urban divisions with nearly 95% pass rate, driven by large student volume and stable school performance. Pune remains close behind at 94.24%, maintaining consistent academic results above 94%. Kolhapur stands out as the second-best performing division overall at 95.47%, reflecting strong institutional and student-level performance. Together, these three divisions form a high-performance cluster above 94%, indicating strong educational infrastructure in western Maharashtra.
Mid-Performance Belt: Nashik and Amravati
Both Nashik (90.53%) and Amravati (90.50%) sit just above the 90% mark. These divisions show stable but moderate performance, with results close to the state average regular pass rate, indicating balanced but not top-tier outcomes.
Lower Performance Divisions: Nagpur, Latur, Sambhajinagar
Nagpur (89.07%) remains slightly below 90%, indicating scope for academic strengthening. Latur (88.42%), despite improvements in past years, remains in the lower tier of the performance table. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (88.41%) records the lowest pass percentage in the state, narrowly below Latur.
Key Insight: Clear Regional Performance Divide
The data highlights a visible academic divide: the top tier (95%+) includes Konkan and Kolhapur; the strong urban tier (94–95%) includes Mumbai and Pune; the mid tier (90–91%) includes Nashik and Amravati; and the lower tier (below 90%) includes Nagpur, Latur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This distribution suggests that geography, institutional density, and urban advantage continue to play a major role in academic outcomes.
