Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday reviewed the preparedness for the re-conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) following the paper leak incident. He directed officials to ensure a smooth and fair examination process while taking strict action against those spreading fake news and misinformation about the issue.
Review of Re-exam Arrangements
During the high-level meeting, Pradhan assessed the arrangements made by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the re-exam, which is scheduled to be held soon. He emphasized the need for foolproof security measures to prevent any untoward incidents. The minister also instructed the NTA to coordinate with state governments and local authorities to ensure seamless conduct of the test across all centers.
Action Against Misinformation
Pradhan expressed serious concern over the spread of fake news regarding the paper leak and the re-exam. He ordered the cyber cell and other concerned departments to identify and take legal action against individuals and groups involved in circulating false information. The minister reiterated that the government is committed to maintaining the integrity of the examination system and will not tolerate any attempts to undermine it.
- Strict monitoring of social media platforms to curb misinformation
- Enhanced security at exam centers, including CCTV surveillance and jammers
- Contingency plans for any technical glitches or disruptions
Background of the Paper Leak
The NEET paper leak came to light earlier this month when reports emerged that the question paper had been compromised in certain states. The incident led to widespread protests and demands for a thorough investigation. The government subsequently decided to conduct a re-exam for affected candidates to ensure fairness.
Pradhan assured that the education ministry is taking all necessary steps to protect the interests of students and maintain the credibility of the examination process. He also urged students and parents to remain calm and not fall prey to rumors.
In a statement, the ministry said that the re-exam will be conducted in a transparent manner, and candidates will be provided with all necessary support. Further details regarding the schedule and logistics will be announced shortly.
