The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the window for NEET-UG 2026 candidates to update their bank account details for exam fee refund until July 7, 2026. The extension was granted after the agency received multiple representations from candidates reporting issues with incorrect bank account numbers and IFSC codes.
Reason for Extension
According to an official statement released by the NTA on July 1, the decision to extend the deadline was made to accommodate candidates who faced difficulties in providing accurate banking information during the initial window. The agency emphasized that the correction facility is specifically for those whose refunds were delayed or failed due to erroneous account details.
How to Update Bank Details
Candidates can log in to the official NTA website using their application number and date of birth to access the bank account update portal. They must enter the correct account number, confirm the account number, and provide the accurate IFSC code. The NTA advises candidates to double-check all entries before submission to avoid further delays.
Impact on Candidates
The refund applies to candidates who had paid the examination fee but were unable to appear for the NEET-UG 2026 exam due to various reasons, including COVID-19 related issues or other emergencies. The NTA had earlier set a deadline of June 30, but following persistent requests, it was extended by a week.
“We understand the inconvenience caused to candidates due to banking errors. This extension aims to ensure that no genuine candidate loses their refund because of technical glitches or mistakes in data entry,” an NTA official said.
Previous Developments
NEET-UG 2026 was conducted on May 3, 2026, with over 2.4 million candidates registered. The exam faced controversies earlier this year over alleged paper leaks, prompting the NTA to implement stricter security measures. The refund process is part of the agency’s efforts to address candidate grievances.
Candidates are urged to complete the bank account update before July 7, 2026, as no further extensions are expected. For assistance, they can contact the NTA helpline or email the support team.
