Impact and Next Steps for Aspirants
With the result out, the next crucial step is the NEET UG counselling process, which will begin in July 2026. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct the counselling for 15% All India Quota seats, while state authorities will handle the remaining 85% state quota seats. Candidates must register for counselling separately and fill in their choice of colleges and courses. The seat allotment will be based on merit, preference, and availability.
It is important for candidates to keep their documents ready, including the NEET scorecard, admit card, class 10 and 12 mark sheets, identity proof, and category certificate (if applicable). Any mismatch in details can lead to disqualification during document verification.
Statistics and Previous Trends
In 2025, over 18 lakh candidates appeared for NEET UG, and the success rate was approximately 56%. For the 2026 re-exam, around 50,000 candidates were eligible, and the NTA reported a 98% attendance rate. The highest score in the re-exam is expected to be around 715 out of 720, as per unofficial sources. The NTA has not yet released the official toppers' list.
Candidates who could not clear the cutoff may consider appearing for the next NEET UG in 2027 or explore alternative career options in paramedical fields such as B.Sc. Nursing, B.Pharm, or allied health sciences.
