NEET-PG 2026: Exam city allotment changes; Aadhaar verification introduced

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced significant changes to the NEET-PG 2026 examination process, including a shift away from the first-come, first-serve basis for exam city allocation and the introduction of Aadhaar-based authentication and verification for the first time.

Key Changes in NEET-PG 2026

According to the official notification released by NBEMS, the exam city preference will no longer be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, candidates will be assigned exam cities based on their preferences and availability, with a more structured allocation process. This change aims to ensure a fairer distribution of candidates across exam centers and reduce the rush for early registration.

Additionally, NBEMS will implement Aadhaar-based authentication during the application and examination process. Candidates will need to provide their Aadhaar number for verification, which will be used to confirm identity and prevent impersonation. This marks the first time such a system has been used for NEET-PG.

Impact on Candidates

The new exam city allocation policy means that candidates no longer need to rush to register immediately to secure their preferred city. Instead, they can submit their preferences during the application window, and NBEMS will allocate cities based on a systematic process. This is expected to reduce stress and technical glitches often associated with high-traffic registration periods.

For Aadhaar authentication, candidates must ensure their Aadhaar details are up to date and linked to their mobile number. NBEMS has stated that the authentication will be done through a secure portal, and no biometric data will be stored. The move is part of broader efforts to enhance exam security and integrity.

Other Modifications

NBEMS has also revised the eligibility criteria and application timeline for NEET-PG 2026. The application window will open in the third week of August 2026, and the exam is scheduled for November 2026. Detailed information will be available on the official website.

According to NBEMS officials, these changes are based on feedback from stakeholders and aim to streamline the examination process. “The new system will ensure greater transparency and efficiency,” an NBEMS spokesperson said.
