The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially launched a new undergraduate programme – the BSc in Fabric and Apparel Design. This innovative course, offered through the School of Continuing Education (SOCE), falls under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) framework for the January 2026 admission cycle. Designed to cater to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the textile and fashion sectors, the programme will be delivered exclusively in the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, making it accessible to learners nationwide.

Multiple Exit Options and Progressive Credentials

A standout feature of this BSc programme is its multiple exit framework, which provides students with unparalleled flexibility. Upon successful completion of the first year, learners can earn a UG Certificate in Fabric and Apparel Design. After the second year, they are eligible for a UG Diploma. The full BSc degree is awarded after three years, while a BSc (Honours) in Fabric and Apparel Design is conferred upon completing the entire four-year curriculum. This structure aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting a learner-centric approach.

Affordable Fee Structure and Open Applications

The application process for the BSc in Fabric and Apparel Design is currently open. The fee has been set at an affordable Rs 11,000 per year, though this excludes applicable registration and development fees. To be eligible for this programme, candidates must have completed their 10+2 education with Science as a compulsory stream.
