Patna: Patna University (PU) on Tuesday decided to introduce a dual degree scheme for students. The decision was taken at a meeting of the university's academic council chaired by vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh.
Dual Degree Programme Details
According to the decision, the dual degree programme will be implemented strictly in accordance with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. Under the scheme, one degree will be awarded through an online course, while the second degree will be pursued through an offline programme.
Exclusions and Additional Approvals
The academic council also decided that PhD programmes would not be included under the dual degree system. During the meeting, the council further approved a proposal received from the Sainik Welfare Board for introduction of a bachelor's programme in human resource management for ex-Army personnel.
This initiative aims to provide students with greater flexibility and enhanced learning opportunities by combining online and offline education. The dual degree programme is expected to benefit a wide range of students, allowing them to earn two degrees simultaneously without compromising on the quality of education.
The university administration emphasized that the programme would adhere strictly to UGC norms to ensure academic standards are maintained. The decision has been welcomed by many faculty members and students who see it as a progressive step towards modernizing higher education.
Patna University, one of the oldest universities in India, continues to evolve its academic offerings to meet contemporary needs. The introduction of the dual degree scheme is part of its ongoing efforts to provide diverse and flexible educational pathways.
