Patna University (PU) will commence the online application process for undergraduate programmes in its constituent colleges for the academic session 2026-27 from Saturday. The university will utilize the Samarth portal for the first time to receive applications and manage the admission process. The last date for submission of online applications is May 30.

Admission Process Decided in Meeting

The details of the admission procedure were finalized during a meeting of principals and university officials held on Thursday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh. It was decided that admissions to the four-year degree programmes will be conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

No Entrance Test for Regular Programmes

Kameshwar Pandit, Dean of Students' Welfare, announced that there will be no entrance examination for admission to regular four-year degree programmes. Applicants will be selected based on the marks obtained in their Class 12 (Plus Two or Intermediate) examinations conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), or the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination (CICSE). Marks from all these boards will be treated equally, and a combined faculty-wise merit list will be prepared based on marks and the candidate's choice of institution.

Choice of Colleges for Honours Courses

Students aspiring to pursue honours courses in science subjects can indicate their preference for Patna Science College, B N College, or Magadh Mahila College. For honours in humanities and social science subjects, the available choices are Patna College, B N College, and Magadh Mahila College. For commerce honours, Vanijya Mahavidyalaya is the only option under conventional courses.

Seat Availability

There are a total of 4,531 sanctioned seats across all undergraduate programmes (both regular and self-financing modes) in all PU colleges.

Entrance Tests for Self-Financing and Professional Courses

Admissions to some self-financing and professional courses will be conducted through entrance tests as per their respective regulations. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) entrance test will be held on June 12. Entrance tests for LLB (3-year), LLB (5-year), BBA, BCA, and B Lib Science will be conducted on June 13. The entrance test for BMC, Functional English, and Environmental Science will be held on June 14.

Important Dates

The last date for admission to all undergraduate programmes is July 7. An induction meeting for newly admitted students will be held on July 10, and classes will commence on July 11.
