The chancellor's secretariat in Bihar has invited applications for the appointment of pro-vice-chancellors in 14 conventional state universities. According to an official notification, online applications are now open for eligible candidates, and the last date for submission is July 1.
Universities Seeking Pro-Vice-Chancellors
The positions are available at Patna University, Patliputra University, Magadh University, L N Mithila University, BRA Bihar University, TNB Bhagalpur University, K S D Sanskrit University, B N Mandal University, Jaya Prakash University, Veer Kunwar Singh University, Maulana Mazharul Haq Arabic and Persian University, Purnea University, Munger University, and Nalanda Open University. Notably, none of these universities have had a pro-VC for a considerable period.
Eligibility and Selection Process
The notification specifies that the essential qualifications, experience, and other eligibility conditions for the post are identical to those prescribed for the vice-chancellor. The pro-VC position in state universities was established in 1982 following amendments to the Patna University Act, 1976, and the Bihar Universities Act, 1976. Pro-VCs are appointed by the chancellor in consultation with the state government, following the same procedure as for vice-chancellors, for a term not exceeding three years.
