The state directorate of higher education in Goa has announced the selection of thirty outstanding students as Goa Scholars for the upcoming academic year. This selection was made under the prestigious Manohar Parrikar Goa Scholar Scheme, which received a total of 185 applications for the 2024-25 cycle.
Honouring a Visionary Leader's Legacy
The scholarship programme was originally conceptualised by the former Chief Minister of Goa, the late Manohar Parrikar. It continues to operate in his memory, upholding his commitment to nurturing academic excellence. The core aim of the scheme is to identify, encourage, and support young, meritorious scholars from Goa. It enables them to pursue advanced postgraduate and doctoral studies at reputed institutions, both within India and internationally.
Rigorous Selection by Expert Panel
The path to selection was highly competitive. A dedicated scrutiny committee, comprising respected senior academicians alongside experts from industry and administration, first shortlisted eligible candidates from the pool of applicants. These shortlisted candidates were then called for a final interview, which determined the final thirty scholars.
The selected scholars represent an impressive array of academic and professional disciplines. Their chosen fields showcase the diverse ambitions of Goa's youth. The list includes specialisations such as human-computer interaction, automation control, robotics and computer vision, aerospace engineering, and interior design. Other fields covered are management, information security, biotechnology, bioinformatics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, and mathematics.
The spectrum extends to vital healthcare and sciences, with scholars pursuing paediatric oncology, architecture, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, radiodiagnosis, medicine, dental surgery, and human genetics.
