The UK-India Young Professionals Visa (YPV) scheme, announced under the bilateral Migration and Mobility Partnership, will commence in 2026. The initiative offers 3,000 Indian nationals aged 18-30 the opportunity to live and work in the United Kingdom for up to two years. This scheme is part of a reciprocal arrangement, with a similar number of UK citizens eligible to go to India.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be Indian citizens aged between 18 and 30 at the time of application. They must hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized institution, have at least a basic level of English proficiency (B1 on the CEFR scale), and possess sufficient funds to support themselves initially. Additionally, candidates must not have any dependent children under 18 living with them, and must have at least 2 years of professional experience in a skilled occupation as per the UK's occupation codes.
Selection Process
The selection will be through a random ballot system, similar to the US diversity visa lottery. Interested applicants need to submit an expression of interest during a limited registration window. Those selected in the ballot will then receive a formal invitation to apply for the visa. The application must be submitted within a specified period, along with required documents and fees.
According to the UK Home Office, 'the ballot will be conducted electronically, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.' Successful candidates must then provide biometrics, medical clearance, and a certificate of sponsorship from no employer as this visa is not tied to any specific job. The visa permits work, study, and self-employment but cannot lead to permanent settlement.
