The district education department, in collaboration with the Dehradun administration, has demolished 56 dilapidated school buildings that posed a risk to students' safety. Officials confirmed that a total of 64 such structures had been identified, and the remaining eight will be demolished within the next month.
Details of Demolished Structures
The demolished buildings included four secondary schools and 52 elementary schools. Additionally, 17 individual classrooms were deemed unfit for use, comprising seven in secondary schools and ten in elementary schools. Of these, 14 have already been demolished, while the remaining three will be taken down within a month.
Alternative Arrangements for Students
To ensure that academic activities remain uninterrupted, classes have been relocated to community halls, shelters, and nearby schools. This proactive measure guarantees that students continue their education in a safe environment.
The affected buildings were identified across several blocks, including Chakrata, Kalsi, Vikasnagar, Sahaspur, Raipur, and Doiwala.
Chief Education Officer Vinod Kumar Daundiyal stated, "Safety of students is the utmost priority. Dilapidated buildings must be removed to ensure a secure environment. Alternative arrangements have been made so that studies are not affected."
Future Plans for Reconstruction
Officials revealed that some of the demolished buildings will be reconstructed using government funding. Detailed project reports will be prepared for this purpose. Schools with very low student enrollment will be merged with cluster schools to optimize resources and provide better facilities.
