Ahmedabad School Incident: Class 6 Student Allegedly Poisons Classmate's Water
A disturbing incident at a private school in Ahmedabad has raised significant concerns about student safety and behavioral supervision on educational campuses. According to authorities, a Class 6 student allegedly mixed a chemical substance into a classmate's water bottle following a verbal altercation between the two children.
Details of the Chemical Contamination Incident
Ahmedabad city district education officer Rohit Chaudhary confirmed that the incident occurred approximately four days ago at Durga School in the Maninagar area. The altercation reportedly began with a verbal exchange between the two students several days prior to the contamination incident. Allegedly nursing a grudge from this previous confrontation, one student added a chemical tablet to the other student's water bottle while it was kept unattended in the classroom.
The affected student consumed some of the contaminated water before noticing an unusual smell and stopping consumption. Shortly after drinking the tainted water, the child began experiencing vomiting episodes. School teachers immediately alerted the administration, and the student received prompt medical treatment at a nearby facility.
School Response and Investigation
Given the serious nature of the incident, school management thoroughly reviewed CCTV footage installed throughout the campus. Officials confirmed that the surveillance footage clearly showed a student mixing a tablet into another student's water bottle. Both students involved were questioned extensively, and their parents were summoned to the school for discussions about the concerning behavior.
Medical authorities reported that the affected student remained stable throughout treatment, with no further complications developing after the initial vomiting episode. Following discussions between both families and school officials, the matter was mutually resolved without involving law enforcement agencies. The parents collectively decided against filing a formal police complaint regarding the incident.
Growing Safety Concerns in Ahmedabad Schools
This chemical contamination incident occurs against a backdrop of increasing anxiety about student safety within Ahmedabad's educational institutions. Just months earlier in January, a Class 10 student faced assault by a mob outside National School in Ghatlodia. Furthermore, a fatal assault outside Seventh Day Adventist School in September 2025 had already prompted serious questions about student behavior monitoring and supervision protocols.
Education officials emphasize that such incidents highlight the urgent need for enhanced safety measures, improved conflict resolution mechanisms, and better behavioral monitoring within school environments. While school trustee H N Patel and principal Ketan Shah were unavailable for immediate comment, the incident has undoubtedly sparked conversations among parents, educators, and administrators about creating safer learning spaces for all students.
