Education Officer Arrested in Amravati for SSC Exam Answer Sheet Tampering

In a shocking incident that has rocked the education sector, an education officer and another individual were arrested in Amravati for allegedly tampering with state board SSC paper answer sheets at an examination centre in Anjangaon Surji. The police have launched a thorough investigation, with another accused education officer currently absconding.

Details of the Arrest and Allegations

According to the complaint filed by deputy education officer Rajni Shirbhate, the accused had handed over the answer sheets to two unknown students who were attempting to cheat during the exams. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sudhir Khode, the custodian and block education officer of Anjangaon Panchayat, and Anil Hadole. A third accused, Sushilkumar Abhyankar, who serves as the co-custodian and education extension officer of Panchayat Samiti, is on the run.

The education department has initiated an inquiry into the matter, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations. Sources reveal that a flying squad led by Shirbhate conducted a surprise inspection at the Sitabai Sangai Vidyalaya exam centre on February 27 around 4:40 PM. During the inspection, it was discovered that two answer sheets—one in English medium and one in Urdu medium—were missing.

Discovery of Tampering and Police Action

The inspection further uncovered that Hadole had allegedly hidden the answer sheets in his shirt. Notably, the answer sheets were supposed to be sealed and sent to the DC custody centre by 3:30 PM, but they were found still open during the check, indicating clear violations of exam protocols.

In response, the police registered a case under various sections, including 316(5), 318(3)(4), and 61(2)(A) of the BNS, as well as the Maharashtra University Board and Other Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 1982. This legal action underscores the gravity of the offense and the commitment to upholding exam integrity.

Impact and Ongoing Investigation

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local education community in Anjangaon Surji, with many stakeholders calling for a comprehensive investigation and stringent measures against those responsible. With the police investigation actively underway, more arrests are anticipated in the coming days.

Suraj Bonde, the station officer at Anjangaon Surji police station, stated, "We will take strict action against anyone found guilty of tampering with the exam answer sheets." This firm stance highlights the authorities' dedication to maintaining fairness and transparency in the education system.

As the probe continues, the education department is reviewing its security measures to prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring that the sanctity of board examinations is preserved.
