BJP MLA Calls for State Intervention in CBSE School Affiliation Cancellation

In a significant development during the Zero Hour session of the Rajasthan Assembly on Monday, BJP MLA Kalicharan Saraf brought attention to the contentious cancellation of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliation for Neerja Modi School in Jaipur. He passionately urged the state government to step in and advocate for the withdrawal of this decision, highlighting its potential adverse effects on thousands of students.

Background of the Incident and MLA's Concerns

Saraf referenced a tragic incident that occurred on November 1 last year, where a student named Amaira from the Jaipur-based Neerja Modi School allegedly died by suicide. According to investigations, Amaira had reportedly faced abusive remarks from fellow students and had brought her complaints to her class teacher, but her concerns were allegedly ignored. Saraf suggested that this neglect might have contributed to the student's extreme step, emphasizing the need for accountability in such sensitive cases.

Criticism of CBSE's Decision and Its Impact

Following the incident, the CBSE revoked the school's affiliation, a move that Saraf termed as "illogical." He argued that this decision unfairly jeopardizes the academic futures of nearly 5,500 students enrolled at the institution, causing significant anxiety among their parents. Saraf maintained that instead of penalizing the entire school, action should have been directed specifically against those responsible for the oversight.

Saraf stated, "The school administration and the concerned class teacher should have faced legal action, and an FIR should have been lodged. Instead, the entire school's affiliation was cancelled, which is disproportionate and harms innocent students."

Call for Government Action and Reconsideration

In his appeal, Saraf urged the Rajasthan state government to actively engage with the CBSE to reconsider the affiliation cancellation. He stressed the importance of prioritizing the larger interest of the students to ensure their academic progress is not unduly disrupted. This call to action underscores the broader implications of educational policies on student welfare and institutional accountability.

The issue has sparked discussions on balancing disciplinary measures with the protection of students' rights, making it a critical topic in the ongoing legislative sessions.
