CBSE Schools in Ranchi Launch Letter-Writing Competition to Celebrate Human Bonds
Schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Ranchi are preparing to host a special letter-writing competition this May. This event aims to highlight the importance of human relationships in our increasingly digital world.
Fostering Creativity and Emotional Awareness
The competition forms part of the annual International Letter Writing Competition organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). For the first time, CBSE has officially decided to involve its students in this contest. The goal is to nurture creativity, writing skills, and critical thinking among young learners.
This year's theme focuses on "Why human connection is important in the digital world." Students will write letters to friends expressing their thoughts on this topic. They can use English or any language recognized in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
School Leaders Emphasize the Value of Personal Communication
Shyamali, principal of Jawahar Vidya Mandir in Ranchi, shared her insights on the initiative. "Schools will guide students to understand emotional bonding, empathy, and meaningful communication," she said. "Letter writing encourages students to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with emotions. These relationship values often get lost in today's screen-driven interactions."
Sunil Kumar, principal of GD Goenka, echoed similar sentiments. "We regularly organize writing competitions and promote letter writing to help students build stronger social connections," he explained. "Through this event, we aim to encourage deep reflection on human values and relationships. It also strengthens creative writing and communication skills."
International Recognition and Prizes
The Universal Postal Union's International Bureau will select three winners from entries submitted by member countries. Winners will receive:
- Gold, silver, and bronze medals
- Certificates
- Other prizes
The gold medal winner might get a chance to visit the UPU headquarters in Bern, Switzerland. Additionally, the best entry at the national level will represent India in the international competition.
This initiative underscores a growing effort to balance digital advancements with timeless human connections. It offers students a platform to express themselves thoughtfully while competing for prestigious awards.
